Yup. My Blazer was the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned... until today. Not only did we lose 3rd gear and OD, it sprayed burnt smelly ATF all over my R6 and the UHaul trailer, and I missed another track day. And since I had already pulled off the license plate and mirrors and left them at home, I couldn’t just hop on and make tech on time. Clearly even just towing a yellow vehicle will activate !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
For those keeping score at home:
this is the third time in less than 30 days that one of my vehicles has been on a flatbed.
Our running joke is that after doing an oil change and getting a new air filter yesterday, the 4L60 just couldn’t handle the extra 1/2 HP.
Grosssssssss
On the bright side, we’re all safe, the dog (now our most reliable Chevy) had a great time, and at least Travis had AAA and we were about 80 miles from home. His dad also came out to bring the trailer + bike back home (we bought him lunch and beers in return), and the ATF came off easily with dish soap.
Before I started using rest stop TP to clean off the grime.
TL;DR: I can’t even have not-nice things! Time to drink my own piss heavily.

This post sums up our 4L60 experiences. Except once it was in a parking lot and reverse failed.

You're lucky God didn't tell your tow truck driver to leave you after seeing that Bernie sticker.

There's some tool joke in there with the snap on logo, but I'm too lazy to think of it.

lol :) that and the camo 4x4 stickers are only set of decals from the previous owner I left on. was considering doing some clever stickercraft to make it say STRAP-ON but unfortunately I have to drive it to work in bad weather.

4L60E life!
The Safari’s is going out and the Silverado’s is starting too. I'm more than glad my S10 has a manual at this point :)

If it makes you feel any better my truck (yellow) has had the transmission rebuilt twice. First one burned up from lack of fluid (read full bc of an air pocket according to the trans mechanic). Second time the torque converter blew up less than 100 miles outside the warranty period from the first rebuild.

To be fair, it’s an easy-ish job, or a cheap job if you know a guy. Our last one is still kicking around with the new owner on our $400 rebuild.

This one’s actually a plain old 4L60 too, no E.

When it rains it pours. When our last trans went out, it was like a week before my dad got put on medical leave.

Our 700R4's were just as bad, so it would make sense that they all weren’t great. Cheap to fix, but not great. To be fair, that’s kind of also my thoughts on the 22RE as a Toyota fan.

Everyone talks about how weak the 4L60 is and I’m just sitting here with my 110,000 mile Envoy like:

Fiancé vetoed it, and I’m inclined to agree with his rationale and given what a pain in the ass this $3000 truck has been, we may just dump it anyway

Our Trailblazer went at around 100k. You’re on borrowed time.

I had it serviced last summer at a local transmission shop that I trust very much and they said it looked fine. The 4L60 in my ‘94 blazer was still tight as a drum when I traded it in with 150,000 miles in 2006. Maybe they just like me.

They are what caused us to swear off GM. That means bad things, since we now have a Dodge...

Funny story, I was driving home two years ago on the Fourth of July and some asshat threw a rock through my window. I then proceeded to chase him into the local police department’s parking lot, where he was summarily arrested.

Ballad of the 4L60E
My dad’s truck lost reverse and 2nd gradually after buying the truck, previous owners left us atf that looked like oil that the Clampetts struck. Try aiming for an upgraded clutch patch and the corvette servo mod.

He’s fond of saying that his dad used to tow the bass boat with it, so I’m sure it’d be just fine :)
